Mencia what were you thinking?
7/2/2008 |
| It was interesting to see Carlos Mencia pay tribute to George Carlin. I admit I doubted Mencia's tribute as he seems to be unethical in so many ways as far as comedy is concerned. But the things he said were touching and he connected with me and I felt like A heel for thinking ill of him. THEN! OH NO YOU DIDN'T! He said to George Sumtin Sumtin Be With God! I was like WHAT? Really.... I MEAN REALLY! George Carlin was very specific in his comedy about his doubt that God exists yet Carlos ends a fitting tribute with a statement that George would be pointing out how little sense it made. To say George was a profound influence man was fine. Also fine to almost insult him by saying your comedy is based on his comedy. It was odd but I still felt you were saying something that was heartfelt, until you Said something that was at both ironic and delusional. Damn it Mencia, don't you have a clue?

Thanks for nothing!

| John McCain's former jailer has endorsed him for President. I am not sure how to take that. I am sure it means there is some kinda respect he has for him. In almost the same breath he accuses McCain of lying about the torture that had obviously been inflicted on him. Therein lies the rub. We are suppose to believe from his jailer that McCain is honorable and then the man calls him a liar. This is laughable and very serious. Would the hotel chain where Kobe was accused of rape want his endorsement? Do Revere schools point out Jeffrey Dahmer as an alumni? Do the people of Iraq want a Bush Statue? While this endorsement does remind Americans of McCain's honorable service to his country I do think he should let his former jailer know "Thanks but no thanks".

So long...
6/25/2008 |
| So it's goodbye. George Carlin left us. He was a true icon of comedy. His passing for some reason has a profound effect on how I look at the comedy scene. I don't know if his death is just another reminder that I am getting old and if I don't do some things that will impact my own life in a positive way maybe I am not that far behind him. I think it was the fact that it was a heart attack. Most of you know my Dad went Christmas of 06 the week I was working at the FunnyStop. I think it effected me. I kept working that week not for any reason but some wierd idea that my Dad would have wanted me to go ahead and work that week. I had just started featuring there and I got the idea if I was working on making others laugh it would blunt my numbness. And then this week the numbness kinda hit me again. I don't think it was cause of George Carlin dieing, I think that was just a trigger. Most of us on this comedy scene won't make it too big. Most of will do this as a creative outlet to stay engaged. So, I guess maybe it's a hobby. Weeks like this I get too introspective and keep asking myself... " Why ya doing this?" This week the answer is I dunno, and that's really good enough.
